Natural Health Newsletter
from Diana Scanlan
Welcome to this last newsletter of 2005, time perhaps to look back on the past
year, the joys and sorrows, achievements and disappointments! And to look forward
to a new year filled with new challenges and excitement. My wish for you is that
you may enjoy peace, happiness and a growing sense of contentment in the coming
year.
I hope that you will continue to enjoy these newsletters, and increase your
health and happiness by so doing.
We all know that these last few weeks before Christmas can be a busy and stressful
time, with preparations for the festive season, social functions and shopping
for gifts for our loved ones often taking priority over self-nurturing.
At this time it is important to take a little time for ourselves to rest and
rejuvenate.
Try meditation, it has so many benefits,
both physical, emotional and spiritual. It can calm your mind, ease anxiety and
bring you in closer touch with your inner self.
Exercise of the month: Swimming

Swimming is a wonderful exercise at any time of the year, but now the water
is warm and refreshing. Vary your stroke styles from freestyle, breast stroke
and backstroke to gain the maximum benefit for every muscle group.
The effect of the resistance of the water will increase your body strength
and aerobic capacity.
Get a fruit hit!
Mangoes are in season now, as well as other exotic summer fruit, peaches, apricots
and cherries. They are all a great source of vitamins and a wonderful substitute
for a mid-morning slice of cake or a biscuit. Enjoy, and feel the benefits to
your health and energy levels. Try juicing fruit such
as apples, pears or oranges for a thirst quenching summer taste sensation.

Herb of the month: Basil

This is one of my favourite herbs - its fragrant leaves have many
uses. It gives flavour to insipid vegetables and fish, and goes particularly well
with tomatoes. I have fond memories of a tomato and Basil salad a dear friend
often made, which was a firm favourite with everyone and especially me! Basil
helps to stimulate the appetite, the digestion and the nerves.
New - The world's leading anti-ageing cream formulated with the world's
most effective anti-wrinkle ingredients.
This wonderful new treatment cream, containing the best ingredients from nature,
is taking the skin care industry by storm.

I have personally participated in a trial of this exceptional product and have
found it to live up to every one of its claims. It is indeed like a natural face
lift, making my skin look and feel softer, have the appearance of a firmer, more
youthful profile, and culminating in a fresher, more youthful result.
Newsflash!
Benefits of olive oil

Olives and olive oil are an integral part of the Mediterranean diet and are
a healthy addition to any eating plan.
Research shows that including olive oil in your diet can help with weight loss,
with lowering LDL cholesterol levels, with reducing the risk of cancer, and in
lessening the likelihood of rheumatoid arthritis. Quite an impressive list!
Choose extra virgin olive oil where possible as this type is full of flavour
and contains the most health giving antioxidents.
Juice Profile
Everyone's talking about ... wheatgrass!
In many cafés and juice bars you can spot it growing green and straight.
Buy it juiced in a shot glass, sip and mix thoroughly with your saliva before
swallowing. The benefits are many and we are promised glowing health and added
energy and vitality as a result of drinking it regularly day.
Here's why: it contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals, calcium,
magnesium, iron, potassium, to name a few. Antioxident enzymes, chlorophyll, and
MSN to help with inflammation and allergic reactions.
In short it is indeed a superfood, and although it may not be your favourite
juice in regard to taste, the energy boost it can give is something to be experienced.
Quote of the month
"One person with a belief is equal to the force of 99 who have only interests"

Healthy hint of the month
Enjoy a little sunshine - afternoon tea with a friend will boost your
mood and relax your mind.
This month's smile: Things my Mother taught me No. 2

And finally I wish you a very Happy and Healthy Christmas.
